How does the process work?
Here’s the step-by-step breakdown:
- Order the reference check for your applicant.
- The applicant receives an email prompting them to enter their reference details.
- Once submitted, references receive a survey via email to provide feedback on the applicant’s past performance.
- After at least 3 out of 5 references complete the survey, a detailed report can be generated.
- The report is automatically stored under the Restricted Files tab in the applicant’s profile and emailed directly to you.

Can I or the Support Team add references for the applicant?
No, the system requires the applicant to provide consent before their references can be contacted. This means they must enter their reference details themselves.
What if the applicant only has phone numbers for their references?
The system only supports email-based reference checks. This ensures a more automated process and increases the likelihood of honest, anonymous feedback from references.
What types of questions will references be asked?
Questions are customized based on the job title to ensure relevant feedback. If the title is too unique, a general set of questions will be used instead. Here are some sample questions:

What if the applicant doesn’t have five references?
You can request a manual override to require only three references instead of five. However, keep in mind:
- All three references must respond, or no report will be generated.
- The applicant must manually send the reference requests once the override is applied.
- The process requires extra manual steps for both the hiring manager (you), the applicant, and our team.
Can we finalize the report with only two responses instead of three?
Normally, a report requires three responses to be generated. However, if only two replies have been submitted and no additional responses come in after a week you have the option to finalize the report with just two responses. Our Support Team will reach out if this option becomes available.
What if the applicant or their references don’t complete the process? Will I still be charged?
Yes, the $19 fee applies per applicant—even if they or their references do not complete the process.
- If the applicant fails to enter reference details, it may be a red flag about their level of engagement.
- If fewer than 3 out of 5 references respond, this may reflect on the applicant’s professional relationships.
Will the applicant and references receive reminders?
Yes. Both the applicant and their references will receive:
- An initial email notification
- Follow-up reminders at 24 and 48 hours
